The acting prosecutor of the Prosecutor’s Office of the Republic of Turkey submitted to the Tuzla Cantonal Court a proposal to order a detention measure for Velemir Gordeljević (52) from Osmak (Zvornik) due to the existence of a well-founded suspicion that as part of a criminal group, he committed the criminal acts of robbery, assault on officials in the performance of security duties, and robbery, and is related to the events of November 19, 2025, when three masked and armed robbers came to Kalesija, two men entered a jewelry store, tied up the owner and stole a certain amount of gold and silver jewelry, and while fleeing, shot police officers in the center of Kalesija.
The suspect was on the run after committing the crimes. Members of the Police Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina, in cooperation with several law enforcement agencies in Bosnia and Herzegovina, conducted intensive investigations, located the suspect in the wider area of Kalesija and deprived him of his freedom on November 26 in the afternoon.
There is a well-founded suspicion that Velemir Gordeljević, with two other people who directly participated in the commission of several crimes, created a criminal plan, with clearly divided roles in the group, and they drove to Kalesija in a previously stolen car to commit robbery and rob a jewelry store.
We remind you that on November 19, around 7:25 a.m., a robbery was reported to the Kalesija Police Department of a jewelry store in the center of Kalesija. Immediately after the report, several police officers intervened to prevent their further illegal actions, when they saw the suspects in the car at the time of their escape.
Seeing the police officers, the three robbers, aware that they were using firearms to attack officials in the performance of public security and public order duties, knowing that they were caught in the act of committing criminal acts, and with the aim of keeping the stolen gold and silver jewelry and escaping, started shooting from the car at the police officers and fired a large number of shots at them.
Police officers, in order to prevent them from escaping and further attacking them, and in order to prevent their further illegal actions, which could have dangerous consequences for the lives and health of citizens, as well as for the lives and health of police officers, they used official weapons and fired several shots in the direction of the car in which they were suspected, after which the robbers drove away in the direction of Zvornik.
By undertaking further investigative and operational actions in the field, police officers found an abandoned and burned car used by the suspects in the town of Jelovo Brdo near Kalesija and found the lifeless body of one of the suspects, Matija Gordeljević, near the car.
Police agencies and the Prosecutor’s Office of the Republic of Turkey are still continuing with an intensive investigation in order to identify and arrest another suspect who is on the run.
