The police officer in charge of the security of the French national football team has been sanctioned with early retirement by the General Directorate of the National Police of France (DGPN).
Everything happened after he received monetary gift from Kylian Mbappéreports AFP, citing a source close to the case and confirming the writing of Le Monde newspaper, writes Klix.
It is a donation in the amount of 60,300 euros which a police officer assigned to the French Football Federation (FFF) received in June 2023.
This is money that Mbappé received as a bonus after winning second place at the World Cup in Qatar in 2022. The transaction is in July 2024 the bank reported to Tracfina, the financial intelligence service of the French Ministry of Finance, after which a judicial investigation was opened.
The policeman’s lawyer Jean-Baptiste Soufron he previously told AFP that the donation was completely legal, made by check and that there was no legal obligation to report it.
Although the police officer was the subject of an administrative investigation by the General Police Inspectorate (IGPN), in October he was called before the disciplinary council, which did not impose any sanction at the time. However, a few weeks later, on December 20, the DGPN decided on his early retirement because he did not inform his superiors about the donation.
According to sources, the police officer, using his rights, already requested retirement anyway and left the service on December 31. It is also added that he is a family friend of the Mbappé family and that the FFF should hire him through a temporary contract for the next World Cup.
His lawyer announced appeal to the administrative court, arguing that the decision of the DGPN is contradictory, since other charges, including allegations of parallel or hidden work in Cameroon, were previously dismissed after explanations were presented to the disciplinary panel.
This story has no legal basis. The donation was legal and was never disputed. There is an obvious intent to harass, especially considering that the commander was already due to retire at the end of the year, he stated Abdel Aïssou.
Despite this, the judicial investigation related to suspicions of undercover work and money laundering related to possible tax fraud is still ongoing.
In the same context, four more brigadiers received 30,000 euros, bringing the total amount of donations shared by Mbappé to 180,300 euros. Those around the captain of the French national team say that “everything was done in accordance with the rules” and that there was “no favoritism”.
