The hosts of the event are members of the BiH Presidency, Željko Komšić and Denis Bećirović, who organized a reception in honor of this significant date.
BiH Independence Day is celebrated in memory of the referendum held on February 29 and March 1, 1992, when citizens decided on the future of the country.
The referendum question posed a choice between remaining in the former Yugoslavia and establishing a sovereign and independent Bosnia and Herzegovina, a state of equal citizens of all nationalities.
A total of 2,073,568 citizens went to vote, which was 63.7 percent of the electorate, and the overwhelming majority of 99.44 percent declared for independence.
These results opened the way for the international recognition of Bosnia and Herzegovina as an independent state.
