Four weeks after the ceasefire took effect, the limited humanitarian aid entering Gaza has failed to alleviate the dire living conditions of the displaced Palestinians.
Families in tents in Khan Yunis are facing cold weather and fears of a repeat of last year’s humanitarian crisis, as rain has already flooded many tents.
Since Friday, Gaza has been gripped by a cyclone accompanied by cold air masses and heavy rainfall, further worsening the situation for around 1.5 million displaced people.
According to the Government Media Office in Gaza, 93 percent of the tents are no longer fit for habitation, 125,000 out of a total of 135,000, due to weather conditions and damage caused by Israeli bombing.
Israel continues to block the entry of shelter materials, including tents and mobile homes, despite commitments made under the ceasefire agreement that came into effect on October 10.
The first phase of the agreement, based on the plan of US President Donald Trump, envisages the exchange of Israeli hostages for Palestinian prisoners, the reconstruction of Gaza and the establishment of a new administrative system without Hamas.
Since October 2023, Israeli attacks have killed more than 69,000 Palestinians, most of them women and children, while much of the enclave has been razed to the ground.
