At least one person was killed and six others were injured in a shooting at Lincoln University in Pennsylvania on Saturday night.
A total of seven people were shot outside the school’s International Cultural Center, authorities told reporters at a news conference early Sunday.
“We are devastated to announce tonight that one person has died and six others have been shot,” Chester County District Attorney Christopher de Barrena-Sarobe told the conference, without elaborating on the conditions of the injured.
One person carrying the gun has been taken into custody, the district attorney said, noting that investigators are still gathering information, CNN reports.
“We don’t have a lot of answers about exactly what happened,” he said, noting that it’s possible there were multiple shooters.
A motive has not yet been determined, but de Barrena-Sarobe said the shooting did not appear to be a case “where someone came with the intention of causing massive damage to the university campus.”
Local, state and federal law enforcement agencies are investigating the case, the district attorney’s office said, urging anyone with information about the shooting to contact the FBI.
Several people were treated at the scene after being knocked to the ground and run over while others in the crowd ran for cover, de Barrena-Sarobe said.
Authorities said earlier that multiple shooting victims were taken to hospitals in nearby Delaware.
The campus is no longer on lockdown, although the scene of the shooting remains an active crime scene, officials said during a news conference.
Lincoln University is located about 88 kilometers west of Philadelphia.
