Miami without Drew Smith until the end of the season

Miami Heat guard Drew Smith will miss the rest of the season after suffering a ruptured Achilles tendon.

He suffered the injury in a non-contact game on Monday, in which Miami defeated the Brooklyn Nets 110:95, and he needed help to leave the court, reports Hina.

Drew Smith is back in the lineup after recovering from a torn ACL, an injury he suffered a little more than a year ago while with the Sioux Falls Skyforce, the Heat’s developmental NBA G-League affiliate.

“You don’t want anybody to get hurt,” Miami coach Erik Spoelstra said.

“We all have an incredible amount of respect for his journey, what he has had to overcome. I was at the club, when there was no one else, and he was constantly going through all the extensive treatment and rehabilitation. He just has incredible strength, so at the end you cheer for guys like Drew,” Spoelstra added.

Smith, who turns 27 on Monday, averaged 6.3 points and 2.6 rebounds in 19.1 minutes per game this season. This season in the NBA, he appeared in 14 games out of the 38 he played during the three seasons he spent in Brooklyn and Miami.
