Serbian tennis player Novak Djokovic received the Globe Sports Award for achievements in sports last night in Dubai.
Djokovic was presented with the award by a Portuguese footballer Cristiano Ronaldoreported by the media in Arabic. Award Globe Sports Awardpresented by the Globe Soccer Award, was introduced this year and celebrates excellence beyond a single sport, celebrating athletes whose careers reflect determination, longevity and global inspiration.
Djokovic said he was caught off guard, but in a positive way.
To receive this award from Ronaldo is a dream come true. I am grateful to call him a friend and someone who always inspires. We are not part of the same sport, but we encourage each other. In him you see someone who has conquered everything and still wants more. Although we are in different sports, we can support each other and show future generations that there are no borders. We stand here together and talk about how sports can inspire children around the worldwhich is something we’re looking forward to. This award sends a strong message. Sport can change lives. When Cristiano says he will score 1,000 goals, you see the power of the mind. The mind controls everything, Djokovic said.
Ronaldo pointed out that Djokovic is an example of excellence and longevity, adding that there are similarities in their careers at the highest sports level.
For me he is an example of longevity. We have a similar story. He deserves this because he is an example for the past generation, the present and the next. As you know, I am a man of challenges. This is a new era. We need to open our minds to other sports. The world needs to see excellent quality outside of football. I like football, but I also like other sports. I learn from great figures in different disciplines. That was the idea behind creating this award, Ronaldo stated.
The Serbian tennis player has won 24 Grand Slam titles in his career so far.
