As Sportske novosti writes, the arrival of Luka Menal (28), a player who is contractually bound to Dinamo until the summer of next year, has practically been agreed upon. However, in Maksimir, they agreed to terminate the contract with the occasional member of the BiH national team and allowed him to go wherever he wanted.
The connection between Rijeka and Menal has a long and successful history. As a loan player from Dinamo, Menalo played for Rijeka in the 2020/21 season. He left a great impression – in 36 appearances he scored 10 goals, with 7 assists. At the time, Rijeka wanted to buy his contract, but in Maksimir they assessed that Menalo had made great progress at Rujevica and decided to keep him in the team.
A year and a half ago, Menalo was on his way to Rujevica again, a loan deal between Dinamo and Rijeka was again agreed. However, the already agreed transfer was stopped by Sergej Jakirović, who left the bench of Rijeka in those very days to take over Dinamo. Jakirović estimated that Menalo will be an important player for him in Maksimir.
In the meantime, Menal’s shares in Maksimir have visibly declined. Last spring, he went on loan to Celje, he played a little there, he didn’t play a little, but at the end of the season he celebrated the title of Slovenian champion. He even entered this season as a Celje player, to play his last game for the Slovenian champions at the end of August and return to Maksimir.
He didn’t play in Dinamo all fall, he wasn’t even in the squad, so terminating the contract was the most logical option.
Regardless of the slightly longer break, Menalo should quickly find a rhythm, and Rujevica are confident that they will get reinforcements in it. If he plays as well as he did in the first term at Rujevica, he will be a serious reinforcement for coach Radomir Đalović’s team…
