Commission for awarding Drthe prestigious awards for sports of Bosnia and Herzegovina unanimously approved the proposal to award the State Award for Sports of Bosnia and Herzegovina for the year 2025 to Lejla Njemčević, a top athlete and member of the Mountain Biking Club “Pulse” from Vogošće, which recognized her exceptional, long-standing and internationally affirmed contribution to the development of sports and the promotion of BiH.
For a number of years, Lejla Njemčević has stood out as one of the most important names in Bosnian sports on the international scene. She won the title of the best cyclist in the world in the marathon discipline in 2022 and 2023, and in the same seasons she also achieved overall victories in the World Cup.
She confirmed the continuity of top results in 2025, finishing the season as the fourth-ranked female cyclist in the world, with second place at the World Cup in Italy.
The Commission noted that, according to the scope, continuity and international significance of the achieved results, Lejla Njemčević stood out among a total of seven candidates whose applications were received on time for the Public Call.
The State Award for Sports of Bosnia and Herzegovina is the highest award given by the state for exceptional achievements in the field of sports.
The award is given to citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina for many years of successful activity in sports, exceptional scientific, professional and pedagogical achievements, as well as for an exceptional contribution to the international promotion of Bosnia and Herzegovina, either through individual achievements, the work of sports teams or representative selections.
The proposal of the decision on the awarding of the BiH State Prize for Sport for 2025, which was prepared by the Commission composed of representatives of the Ministry of Civil Affairs of BiH, the competent institutions of the entities and Brčko District of BiH, as well as representatives of the Olympic Committee of BiH, the Ministry of Civil Affairs of BiH directed the competent institutions for further action, the Ministry announced.
