Los Angeles Lakers basketball player LeBron James became the first player in NBA history to play both as a teenager and after turning 40 in his team’s loss to the Cleveland Cavaliers on Wednesday.
“James celebrated his 40th birthday on Monday, and scored 23 points against Cleveland on Wednesday.
“It is interesting that this historic game took place against the team that selected James in the 2003 draft and for which he played 12 seasons on two occasions,” the NBA announced.
James started his NBA career as an 18-year-old in 2003, and on December 30 he celebrated his 40th birthday.
Despite the loss, the legendary winger showed his incredible longevity by scoring 23 points in the 110-122 loss, further highlighting his outstanding abilities in his 22nd NBA season.
James is a four-time NBA champion, the last time he won a ring with the Lakers in 2020. Interestingly, he was the MVP of the finals and the MVP of the regular part of the NBA season four times. He became the best scorer in NBA history in 2023, and currently has exceeded 41,000 points.
This season, he averaged 23.5 points, 7.9 rebounds and 9 assists in 28 games.
