The former leader of the National Liberation Front of Corsica (FLNC) and former president of the French football club Ajaccio, Alain Orsoni (71), was killed during his mother’s funeral in the village of Vero, in the south of Corsica.
According to the French media, Orsoni was killed by a shot in the chest fired from a long distance. The motive for this, obviously professionally executed murder, is not yet known, and the National Prosecutor’s Office for the Fight against Organized Crime has announced that it will take over the investigation.

Orsoni was a prominent figure in the Corsican nationalist movement. In the past, he led the FLNC and later founded and led the Self-Determination Movement. His brother was killed in 1983after which Orsoni left Corsica in 1996 due to conflicts within the movement.
For thirteen years he lived in exile in Florida, Nicaragua and Spain. Soon after returning, in 2008, the police prevented an assassination attempt on him. A year later he was arrested for links to organized crime, but he released after 36 days of hunger strike.
He was president of AC Ajaccio twice. During his first term, the club entered Ligue 1. However, due to severe financial problems, the club declared bankruptcy last season and today competes in the seventh tier of French football, reports N1.
