Several local officials confirmed that on November 14, a massive Ukrainian drone attack was carried out on the Black Sea city of Novorossiysk in the Krasnodar region, with the Sheskaris oil terminal directly hit. It is a key point for the export of Russian oil and the final station of the oil pipeline system operated by the state-owned company Transneft, the largest oil transportation company in the world.
Ukraine reportedly hit a Russian military base and a Kalibr ammo depot.

According to industry sources cited by Reuters, Russia temporarily halted crude oil exports after the attack, which is about 2.2 million barrels per day, or approximately two percent of the world’s total supply. Officials of the Krasnodar region announced that the terminal was damaged, and that nearby port facilities were also damaged. Local services later found out that the fire in the complex was extinguished.
The Russian state agency RIA Novosti stated that a civilian vessel was also hit in the attack and that three crew members were wounded. Shortly afterwards, Ukraine’s Security Service (SBU) confirmed to the Kyiv Independent that the attack was carried out in coordination with the SBU and the Ukrainian Armed Forces, targeting ‘oil loading docks, pipeline infrastructure and petrol stations’. According to their statements, strong fires at the terminal continued to burn for about 14 hours after the attack.
A source from the SBU confirmed to the Kyiv Post that four launchers of the controversial S-400 missile system and two radar systems were destroyed in the attack.

In addition to the launcher, two key radars were also hit: the 96N6 early warning radar, known as the ‘Cheese Board’, and the 92N6 target acquisition radar, known as the ‘Grave Stone’. A total of 12 S-400 launchers were deployed at the location, and additional units are believed to have suffered damage as well.
The Russian Ministry of Defense announced that air defense shot down 66 drones over the Krasnodar region during the evening, but the attack on a strategically important energy facility was not prevented.
The attack was also commented on by Andriy Kovalenko, head of the Ukrainian Center for Combating Disinformation, who posted a video of the aftermath of the attack on social networks with the message: This is the oil terminal in Novorossiysk after the attack.
The attack on Novorossiysk is another in a series of Ukrainian attacks on the Russian energy infrastructure, with which Kiev seeks to weaken Moscow’s financial and logistical foundations, and this time the consequences also reverberated on the global oil market.
