Dinamo has officially dismissed Nenad Bjelica, but for the former coach of the Croatian champion, this decision brings a significant financial reward. Thanks to the contract clause, Bjelica will receive a severance package of as much as 1.2 million euros.
Nenad Bjelica and Dinamo ended their collaboration, and although he was fired due to poor results in the HNL, the former coach of the club from Maksimir leaves with a generous severance package. According to the contract signed until 2026, Bjelica is entitled to a payment in the amount of 12 monthly gross salaries – which amounts to an incredible 1.2 million euros.
The club’s official announcement followed the meeting of the Executive Committee on Sunday evening, when it was confirmed that Dinamo’s results this season were not at the expected level. With only four wins in eleven rounds, Bjelica failed to justify the trustand the management decided to make a cut and bring in a new coach.
“The result is the most important rule in football, and our results in the HNL were not up to expectations. We decided to make the change now in order to give the new coach enough time to prepare the team” he stated sports director Marko Marić.
Bjelic on the Dinamo bench succeeds Fabio Cannavaro, legendary Italian national team player and former Ballon d’Or winner. Cannavaro, who is 51 years old, was last employed with Udinese, and during his coaching career he managed clubs such as Guangzhou Evergrande, Al Nassr and Benevento, as well as the Chinese national team.
And while Cannavaro will try to return Dinamo to winning ways, Bjelica can be satisfied with the financial outcome of his transfer. His monthly gross salary was 100,000 eurosand thanks to the contract clause, the total severance pay is 1.2 million euros – a figure that confirms how much Dinamo invested in its current coach.
Despite the split, this financial move by Dinamo shows how much the club believed in Bjelica at the beginning of the collaboration. However, football results remain inexorable, and Maksimir is now turning a new page under the leadership of Fabio Cannavaro.
