Public call for the allocation of funds

Brašnić signed a decision on giving equipment to permanent use of services and rescue services in the cantons, cities and municipalities. The allocation of equipment aims to strengthen the capacity of local units, which are the first response in crisis situations.
Equipment that includes water pumps, aggregates, tents for tents, is awarded to Posavina Canton, Capljina, Srebrenik, Liveld, Kladanj, Žepče, Gornji Vakuf – Uskoplje, Jablanica, Grude, Posusje, Ilijaš, Ilidža, Old Town of Sarajevo, Banovići and Vitez.
– Several projects with international organizations are underway through which equipment and training for protection and rescue structures are provided at all levels and it is important to emphasize that a good part of the equipment is provided for fire extinguishing. In September 2022, BiH approached the EU Civil Protection Mechanism, which means that the assistance of all members of the mechanisms that have mutual assistance is obliged to provide any accidents, including fires. In addition to this we have good cooperation with neighboring countries with which BiH has signed bilateral agreements primarily in the help of extinguishing fire from the air – said Brašnić.
He emphasized that the equipment and human resources are important elements in protection and saving and thus in protecting fires and firefighting.
– The equipment has its own lifespan and need to continuously craft and train the forces for the response, because only we can have an effective response to natural and other accidents – he said.
This year, FACZ referred recommendations to all Civil Protection Civil Protection and Municipal / City Civil Protection Services and Municipal / City Civil Protection Services.
The largest number of firefighters in Sarajevo Canton
The FBiH has a total of 1,263 systematized jobs of professional firefighters, of which 1,008 jobs of professional firefighters were filled. Firefighter’s equipment remains unsatisfactory
According to Brašnić, after the analysis of the data from the field, it can be stated that the state of organizing and equipping the fire forces in the Federation of BiH is still unsatisfactory.
– The occupancy of PVJ in the FBiH is insufficient and does not match real needs, in 34 PVJs and two PVJ cantons, is systematized by 1,263 jobs of professional firefighters, and only more than 1,000 places of professional firefighters have just been filled.
He pointed out that in the past years, it was significantly invested in the modernization of equipment and staff training through projects, exercises and specialized programs.
As he said, increasingly more pronounced climate change and more frequent natural accidents became a living with whom we must face and whose civil protection plays a key role in ensuring the readiness and capacity of all structures in the system of protection and rescue for dealing with such situations.
– Existing experiences from the open space in the past period, and this year’s fire in Montenegro and Greece, where large forest fires have caused significant damage, indicate the need for continuous improvement and strengthening protection and rescue systems. Procurement of fires for early detection of fires, high-accompanied fire extinguishing vehicles on inaccessible terrains, transmission pumps of large flow, helicopter and airfield for extinguishing airs, etc. – He said Brisnic.
He added that these capacities require additional investment and better inter-institutional and interstate cooperation.

Very little is investing in fireclets
The commander of the professional fire brigade of Sarajevo Canton Kemal Cacan considers that the FBiH is not ready to adequately respond to fires if they were some catastrophic proportions.
– If widel-scale fires, as happens in Greece, Spain, Albania, the FBiH is not ready. I claim that responsibly, for reasons because very few funds are invested in firefighting and very little attention is attached to firefighting as an irreplaceable activity in the function of protection of health, life and property of citizens – Feni Cacan said.
He reminded that BiH consists of mountains, inaccessible ters, and that more than 60 percent of the territory is covered by forest.
– If there is a fire in such a terrain configuration, the indispensable role is the air force, ie we must have a squadron-unit that will support the air. We only rely on the armed forces of BiH, but it is lost a lot of time until the helicopter is built. The inaccessible field cannot be passed without risking the lives of firefighters. And if the large-scale fires will be very challenging for firefighters, but also for the population – cacan pointed out.
He warned that preventative measures must be taken before the fire occurs.
– The authorities must go to the organization, planned forests, ie the average-cutting, must be invested in reconnaissance, 24-hour surveillance. When a fire is just going to get it possible.
