According to the Austrian media, this is a 28-year-old man who escaped from the Reid Penitentiary in July.
Today, around 12 o’clock, the police operation in Garsten caused a great alarm. Around 11:45 am, police officers tried to stop a car that was traveling on the L1344 towards the city center at the Solarfokus roundabout. However, before the officers could control him, the driver jumped out and fled on foot. The police reacted quickly, requested reinforcements and launched a large chase.
“After the police asked for reinforcements, an intensive pursuit was conducted, and the driver was successfully stopped and caught,” announced the Directorate of the State Police of Upper Austria.
Even after his arrest, the man tried to mislead the police. According to the police report, he repeatedly provided false information about his identity. Further investigation eventually enabled the police officers to determine that the 28-year-old is a citizen of Bosnia and Herzegovina and that he is a fugitive.
It turned out that there was already an active warrant for him. He was registered as an escaped inmate from Reid Correctional Institution, as of July 2025.
He was reportedly given a one-day leave, but did not return to prison after his release. After his arrest and police processing, he was returned to Reid Correctional Institution, where he will continue to serve his sentence.
