Novak Djokovic has accepted the apology of Tony Jones and Channel 9, according to a short statement from the Tennis Association of Australia delivered to the media.
“Novak saw that the apology was given in public, as he requested, and now he is moving on and concentrating on the next match,” Sportklub said.
After the match with Jirži Lehečka, Djokovic refused to speak on the court, citing the inappropriate comments of journalist Jones as the reason, as well as the fact that he, just like his media company, did not apologize.

“We are back in Melbourne Park, where we see Novak Djokovic’s fans chanting loudly. Quite unusual… Novak, he is overrated, Novak, he is a thing of the past, Novak, throw him out (allusion to deportation in 2022). Man, it’s a good thing they can’t hear me,” Jones said at the time.
In the meantime, Jones made a statement for the Sport Club, and now he announced himself through an official channel, to the entire public.
“I thought it was humor, which is in line with most things I do. Having said that, I was informed by the Tennis Association of Australia that Djokovic’s team was not happy about those comments. I immediately contacted Djokovic’s team and apologized to them. And as I stand here, I stand behind that apology to Novak. I apologize if he felt I disrespected him,” Jones said among other things.
