The Serbian won that match by beating the world No. 1 with a fantastic game to continue the series of their big confrontations. Last year, Alcaraz won the Wimbledon final, and then Djokovic returned the favor in the duel for the Olympic gold. Now, with the victory over the Spanish phenomenon, he improved his score to 5:3 overall against Alcaraz, reports Index.
It was a great match of top tennis. Djokovic and Alcaraz played a game full of excitement, reversals and masterful moves. Djokovic opened the match with a break and a 2:0 lead, but then Alcaraz came back and achieved a break at a crucial moment, for a 5:4 lead, which meant that he was serving for the first set.
As if that wasn’t bad enough for Djokovic, he asked because of groin pain medical time-out. When he returned from the locker room, Alcaraz easily defended the break and took a 1:0 lead in the sets.
Nothing at the time suggested that it would Djokovic pull off a big turnaround. Especially after Alcaraz compensated Djokovic’s huge advantage of 3:0 at the beginning of the second set. However, a new turn followed, which the Serbian champion reached in the tenth game of the second set for a total of 1:1.
The third set is Djokovic broke in the sixth game. He broke Alcaraz even though he was leading 40:15. This means that he won four points in a row on his opponent’s serve and took a 4:2 lead. The Spaniard returned the break, but then the Serb took his serve again and the third set for the overall lead 2:1. Djokovic opened the fourth set with a break and a 2:0 lead, which he managed to preserve until the end for a 3:1 victory in sets.
