Upon receiving information about the fire at the Tuzla Retirement Home facility that happened on Tuesday, the staff and all resources of the University Clinical Center Tuzla were made available and put on special alert. In addition to the teams on duty according to the regular on-call plan, they also had engagement, i.e. the arrival of staff at their workplaces, announced from UKC Tuzla.
˝During the night, twenty patients were hospitalized in the Clinic for Pulmonary Diseases, among whom were three policemen and six firefighters, and the rest were users and employees of the Tuzla Retirement Home. Unfortunately, one patient died during the night in the Clinic for Pulmonary Diseases. According to the report of the Clinic for Anesthesiology and Reanimation, eight patients were admitted, five of whom are on ventilators and are in extremely serious condition, and one unfortunately ended with a fatal outcome. Hospitalized patients were diagnosed with inhalation injuries caused by inhaling smoke or harmful combustion products. Currently, we have two hospitalized patients in the Clinic for Internal Diseases, said the director of JZU UKC Tuzla, prof. Ph.D. med. sc. Šekib Umihanić.
According to him, the staff and heads of the Clinic for Pulmonary Diseases, the Clinic for Anesthesia and Resuscitation, and the Clinic for Internal Diseases were involved in the process of care and observation of the aforementioned patients.
˝University Clinical Center Tuzla has made available all available capacities for hospitalization of patients who could come due to deterioration of their basic condition, chronic diseases, comorbidities or possibly for accommodation of users of the Tuzla Retirement Home, if it is estimated that they do not have adequate accommodation for new cases or as a possibility of temporary accommodation until an adequate solution is found. The Tuzla University Clinical Center showed its high readiness, preparedness and professionalism on this occasion as well. I would like to thank the staff who reacted promptly and we are at the disposal of the citizens of Tuzla Canton,” Umihanić pointed out.
