It was held in Tešnje on October 24, 2025 “Social Day”a project organized throughout Bosnia and Herzegovina Association of High School Students in BiH (ASuBiH) with the aim of providing young people with their first work experience, skill development and active involvement in the community.
This year’s project coordinator for Tešanj was Danial Halilovića third grader Gymnasium “Musa Ćazim Ćatić”who points out that he is proud of the success of the local team.
– “This year we have a record in the last three years – more than 65 students participated in the Social Day, while as many as 25 companies supported the project. This shows that the local community believes in young people and their potential,” says Danial.
A project that combines theory and practice
“Social Day” offers high school students the opportunity to they volunteer for a day in companies, institutions and organizationsgain insight into the working environment and practically apply theoretical knowledge. Employers participating in the project pay the daily wage to Social Day Fundfrom which local youth projects are financed throughout Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Since the first “Social Day” in 2016, more than 100 youth projectsincluding initiatives on mental health, improvement of school spaces and raising the voice of young people in local communities.
Support of Tešanje companies
Tešanj’s “Social Day” is recognized and supported by numerous companies and institutions, including: MANN+HUMMEL, Madi doo, Hifa-Oil, AS Group, Euro-Roal, Euro-Metali, Mint-Pharm Pharmacy, Jelah Generation, FKS Almy, Nova Kahva, Kapija, HD Slastičarna, Haustor Tešanj, Museum Tešanj, Library, Antenna Radio Jelah, Dentistry Dr. Mehić Adnan, Garden Jelah, Queens Jelah, Design-S, Trend-Tex, Sunpack, Protims Jelah and Car center Školjić.
– “Through this project, students develop work habits, a sense of responsibility and an understanding of the labor market. At the same time, companies have the opportunity to recognize the potential of young people and contribute to their development,” adds Halilović.
Young people as drivers of change
Danial points out that youth activism has a crucial role in the development of society.
– “Young people are the driving force of change. Through activism, we develop empathy, responsibility and skills that school cannot always provide. This is not just helping others, but investing in our own future and a better society,” he says.
He believes that perspective in Bosnia and Herzegovina existsbut that it must be built through joint effort.
– “Young people often feel insecurity and lack of opportunities, but the solution is not to leave. We don’t need to wait for a perspective – we have to create it ourselves. If our voice is heard and if we get the chance to act, we will create a better society here,” concludes Danial.
Association of High School Students in BiH (ASuBiH) has been operating since 2007 and today gathers thousands of young people across the country. The organization is a member of OBESSU and of SAMEand through international cooperation encourages the exchange of experiences and the development of youth initiatives.
This year, Tešanj once again proved to be an example of good practice — an environment where young people do not wait for changes, but create them themselves.
