“Red and White” celebrated in a dramatic ending. Karsen Edwards had a shot to win against Crvena zvezda, but Saša Obradović’s team defended itself and won against Virtus 90:89 (23:15, 22:31, 25:24, 20:19).
The game was evenly matched throughout, but in the end the victory went to Saša Obradović’s team.
The most effective player in the Red Star team was Cody Miller-McIntyre with 21 points and 10 assists. Jordan Nwora scored 20 points, Chima Moneke 13, and Sammy Ojelay scored 11.
In the ranks of Virtus, which is led from the bench by Duško Ivanović, who was the coach of the team from Mali Kalemegdan in the 2022/2023 season, Karsen Edwards stood out with 29 points. Luka Vildoza scored 16 points, Derrick Alston 13, and Karim Dzhalou 11.
Both teams took turns in the lead at the beginning of the match, and Zvezda then ended the first quarter with an 11:2 streak for an eight-point lead, 23:15. Virtus led 33:32 in the second half, and then Zvezda had the advantage again. The visiting team from Bologna led 46:45 at halftime.
Zvezda and Virtus alternated in the lead during the third quarter, and before the last part of the match it was tied 70:70. The team from Belgrade was more confident in the uncertain ending and thus ended the streak of three consecutive defeats in the competition.
Zvezda is in eighth place in the Euroleague standings with 10 wins and seven losses, while Virtus is in 12th position with an 8-9 record.
“Red and white” will visit Paris in the next round, on December 23, and Virtus will welcome Olympiakos on December 26, NN writes.
