The decision of the Central Election Commission (CEC) that approval of the candidacy Đorđe Simion, leader of the Romanian unity of Romania (AUR) and Georgesca ally, followed the day after submitting the application.
Simion and Anamarija Gavrila, the Leader’s Landscary Party (Pot) and the former Aur Member, announced earlier this week to enter the race and that one of them would be drawn if the candidacy is approved for both of them. Gavril was expected to file a sign on Saturday, which is the deadline.
The CEC rejected the candidacy of another politician on Saturday, the Liders Party of SOS Romania Diana Sosoac and approved the candidacy of the Pro-European Centrist Politician Elena Lasconi. Sosoaka was also rejected when the elections were originally held in November.
Djordjesk, which is critical to NATO and opposes Romanian support Ukraine, surprisingly won the first round of elections, 24. November. Simion was the fourth.
After that vote, Romanian intelligence services said foreign actors, most likely Russia, manipulated social networking platforms, especially the tictional, in favor of Djordjesku. The Constitutional Court then is 6. December, before vote in the second round, annulled the presidential elections.
New Voting is scheduled for May – First Circle 4. May and second round, if necessary, 18. May.
The supporters of Djordjesku held several protests for the decision to ban his candidacy.
Protesters on the other side of the political division held a rally in Bucharest on Saturday to express solidarity with, as they stated, European values.
