Rijeka Neretva is one of the most important habitats for freshwater fish in the dinar ecoregence, with numerous species involved in the red list of endangered fish. The endemic types of trout are particularly endangered, whose populations are fragmented with the construction of large hydropower plants and tributaries of the Neretva, which has been prevented by migration to historical hatchery, said “Dinarica” associations.

The conference has resulted in key recommendations, including the need to review the construction of small hydropower plants on the tributaries of Neretva, removing outdated obstacles, active involvement of local communities and establishing permanently protected areas within the river basin.

The conference was marked by a panel discussion with renowned experts in the field of ecology and fisheries, which emphasized the urgent need for action to prevent further reduction in the populations of endemic species. Additionally, representatives of local communities distributed their experiences and challenges in the protection of the Neretva River.
