Yesterday in Brussels, EU and Chinese officials discussed easing trade tensions, especially in connection with the strengthening of controls on the export of rare earth elements from China. Beijing has now agreed to pause the expansion of the list of restricted elements for a year.
“China has confirmed that the suspension of October export controls applies to the EU. Both sides have reaffirmed their commitment to continuing to engage in improving the implementation of export control policies,” Šefčovič announced on the X social network.
Trade relations between Brussels and Beijing were also damaged by the Dutch government’s decision last month to take control of the Chinese chip manufacturer.
This threatens to disrupt semiconductor supplies to European carmakers.
