Hungarian giants Ferencváros are facing serious challenges.
The team started preparations without a head coach, after the Dutch expert Pascal Jansen (51) left them just a few hours before the New Year. His move to Red Bull New York is expected, while Ferencváros will receive a million euro compensation. However, money is not a problem for this club, whose they are priorities are winning the championship title and continuing European ambitions.
Hungarian champion already on January 23 game against Eintracht in Frankfurt as part of the 7th round of the European League. With nine points from six games, Ferencváros is in an excellent 16th place in the EL and has a real chance of reaching the knockout stage.
Jakirović lost Saudi Arabia
As Sportske Novosti learned from Hungarian sources close to the club, the first choice of Ferencváros was Slaven Bilić. But the former Croatian coach he refused the offerwhich is not surprising given his status as a coach who works for big European clubs or for significant fees. Although Ferencváros offers excellent working conditions, it was not enough to attract Bilić, who is waiting for an opportunity that will suit him in Split.
In the meantime, two Dinamo coaches until recently are mentioned as possible candidates – Nenad Bjelica and Sergej Jakirović. Bjelica immediately expressed his willingness to take over the club, but he is not on the shortlist, because otherwise he would already be leading the team during preparations. However, as the days go by, his chances increase, as Ferencváros must resolve the coaching issue by the end of the week.
Sergej Jakirović, on the other hand, recently had an agreed engagement in Saudi Arabia, but that deal in Damac fell through at the last minute. It is unquestionable that Jakirović would also be very happy to accept the offer from Budapest.
