The Council of Ministers of Bosnia and Herzegovina adopted the Analysis of the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Economic Relations of the situation on the market of milk and dairy products in Bosnia and Herzegovina for the year 2024.
According to the analysis, a total of 601.7 million liters of raw milk were produced in BiH, of which about 581.87 million liters were raw cow’s milk, 11.94 million liters of sheep’s milk and 7.91 million liters of goat’s milk. The production of raw cow’s milk is higher by about 5 percent compared to the production of the previous year, while the production of sheep’s milk is higher by 8.89 million liters or 291 percent compared to the previous year, and the growth of goat milk production was also recorded, by 29 percent compared to the previous year.
About 9,000 agricultural producers in Bosnia and Herzegovina produce milk for the market, which results in the subsistence income of households in whole or in part from this production.
The total amount of milk and milk products produced by dairies in BiH in 2024 amounted to 231,951 tons, and a 9 percent increase in total production was recorded compared to the previous year.
When it comes to the export of milk and dairy products to foreign markets, 75 million kg of milk and other dairy products worth 145 million KM were exported, which is 12 percent more than the previous year, both in terms of value and quantity.
Regardless of the fact that the export of milk and milk products recorded an increase, the foreign trade balance was still negative in 2024 and reached a value of 122 million KM, which is higher by 22 million KM or 22 percent compared to the previous year.
Thus, about 65 million kg of milk and other dairy products worth 267 million KM were imported to the market of Bosnia and Herzegovina in 2024, an increase of 38 million KM or 16 percent in terms of value, or 13 percent in terms of the quantity of imports, the Council of Ministers of Bosnia and Herzegovina reported.
