From November 2024, Nermin Bašić has a new job, since then he became a director in Galaxy from South Africa, and all this happened by chance, as he confirmed in an interview with the Meridiansport portal.
– I came here on vacation to see, after Angola I was interested in South Africa. After the Railwaymen and vacation, I wanted to come here where my friends worked. The possibility opened up for me to see what their football looks like and watch two or three games. A lot happened during that period. They lost two games, the head coach no longer wanted to stay and resigned, Bašić said, then added:
– His assistant Adnan Beganović, who is also my friend, was challenged. I had the opportunity to help him as well, to take the position of technical director in order to be of service to him and the club. I like the country to live in, the club is very ambitious.
In addition to talking about his new challenge in his coaching career, Bašić looked back at his former club, Željezničar, where he spent nine months, and said that he will definitely return to Grbavica.
– I am sure that someday I will return to Želja. I think I left the door open, but it won’t happen anytime soon. Even if it doesn’t happen, I’m proud to have coached one of the biggest clubs in the former Yugoslavia. Once a wish, always a wish. I loved that club. I am a professional man, who will work in other clubs and in each of them he will be like Real Madrid. But Željo was a new dimension for me, and I carry that with me throughout my life, Bašić pointed out.
Bašić commented on why he rejected the offer to take over Sloboda, with which he was linked.
– It was Sloboda, I talked to Velež, there was something from Slovenia and North Macedonia. I’m honest with myself, after Želje I wasn’t ready to take on anything for a year. I didn’t have the energy, and when I don’t have that hunger to want to work 24 hours a day, I don’t get into those projects. I must say that after that year, I only now feel that I can. And then that call came from Africa… Football brings incredible stories. South Africa was a dream, because it is nice to live in and everything is at an enviable level, Bašić pointed out.
