With jumps of 141.5 and 143 meters, Austrian Daniel Tschofenig won the second competition of the New Year’s Tour in ski jumping in Garmisch-Partenkirchen, and took the overall lead of the tour.
Tschofenig, a 22-year-old of Slovenian origin, won the competition in Garmisch with 8.6 points ahead of Swiss Gregor Deschwanden and 9.9 points ahead of fellow countryman Michael Hayböck, who broke the Olympic ski jump record in the first series with 145 meters.

In the overall standings of the tour, the Austrians remain in the triple lead, Tschofenig now leads ahead of Jan Hörl, who was fifth today, and the winner from Obertsdorf, Stefan Kraft, who failed only in eighth place. Tschofenig has 622.5 points, Hoerl 614.6, and Kraft 613.8.
The Austrian also took the lead in the overall standings of the World Cup, and is now the first with 796 points, while the German Pius Paschke is second with two points less. The next competition is in Innsbruck, Austria, on January 4, and the final competition in Bischofshofen is scheduled two days later.
