Simcha Rothman, whose party is part of the ruling coalition of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, should talk on the events organized by the Association of Australian Jews.
Interior Minister Tony Burke emphasized, however, that Australia will not accept people who come to the country to “spread divisions”.
– If you come to Australia to spread a message from hatred and division, we don’t want you here. Australia is a country where everyone can be sure and feel safe – he said.
As an automatic consequence of the visa cancellation, Rothman cannot travel in Australia for three years.
The Executive Director of the Association of Australian Jews, Robert Gregory, said the purpose of Rothman’s visit “showing solidarity with the Australian Jewish community, facing the wave of anti-Semitism.”
– The visit is in no way associated with current events in the Middle East – he published on social networks.
Gregory stated that the cancellation of Rothman’s visa “is a wicked anti-Semitic move”, accusing the Australian government that “obsessed” by attacking the Jewish community and Israel, is transferring AFP.
