At least three people have died after huge waves hit the coast of Tenerife, Spain. On Saturday, three deaths were reported at three different locations along the coast.
Christopher Holmgren from Sweden witnessed one of those tragic events. He had just left the sea pool in Puerto de la Cruz with his girlfriend and their one-year-old son when the waves hit, according to Germany’s ZDF.
As he said, they were on their way to lunch and were standing at the observation deck above the pool. Suddenly they heard a woman screaming in Spanish. A few seconds later they saw the waves go over the walls and pull people into the sea.
– It was terrible. We watched people fall into the sea. We were standing only 30 meters away and felt completely helpless – Holmgren told Aftonbladet.
He states that passers-by desperately tried to revive the victims before the ambulance arrived.

El Día writes that the victim was a 79-year-old woman from the Netherlands. Although emergency services responded quickly and attempted resuscitation, the elderly woman died on the spot.
