Arsenal’s players advanced to the semi-finals of the League Cup after beating Crystal Palace 8-7 on penalties in the quarter-final match at the Emirates.
The regular part of the match ended with a score of 1-1. Arsenal took the lead in the 80th minute with an own goal by Maxence Lacroix after Bukaya Saka’s corner kick. Crystal Palace equalized in the fifth minute of stoppage time with Marco Guehi’s goal, after Adam Wharton crossed from a free kick and Jefferson Lerma laid the ball down to the visitors’ captain.
The winner was decided by the eighth series of penalties. Saliba was accurate for Arsenal, and Kepa Arrizabalaga saved Lacroix’s shot, which thus became the tragedy of the match. Borna Sosa, who entered the game in the ninth minute of stoppage time, was safe for the visitors in the fourth series.
