The municipality of Stari Grad Sarajevo has started concrete works on the rehabilitation of the infrastructure inside the barracks, with the clear goal of creating a zone for sports, recreation and spending time in nature, with the simultaneous removal of accumulated waste.
“Others have been telling empty stories for years and have done nothing. We are making concrete moves to revitalize the Faletići Barracks. We will not promise that everything will go quickly and easily, but we want to work responsibly and persistently to make this area a zone of sports, recreation and enjoyment of nature,” said Chief Irfan Čengić.
With the support of the Government of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, work is currently underway on the rehabilitation of the existing road inside the barracks, where a promenade and a path for cyclists will be arranged.
Other activities are planned to continue during 2026, and the mayor has already proposed a decision to the Municipal Council on a possible management model for the future sports and recreation zone.
“We will not build facilities or start any activities that require building permits that cannot be obtained, because it is unpromising military state property. We will not work like those who swear by state property, and then build without building and use permits in barracks, endangering people’s safety for the sake of political popularity before the elections. We do not interfere in other municipalities, there are authorities who should take care of that property,” stressed Chief Čengić, and added that he hoped for a soon resolution of the state issue property, in order to finally clearly define the way of managing this and similar property at the state level, because today it is falling apart, and the spaces remain unused, to the detriment of all citizens.
