Sad news has hit the boxing world after professional boxer Hassan Mgaya passed away at the age of 29 just days after being brutally knocked out by Paul Elija.
The fight between Elias and Mgaya took place on December 27 last year, and the unfortunate boxer was immediately taken to the hospital where he died three days later. Doctors determined that Hasan Mgaya died from injuries sustained in the aforementioned fight.
“Mgaya was taken to the Palestine Hospital in Sinza, Tanzania before being transferred to Mvananjamala Hospital where he spent his last moments. The entire VBC family and President Mauricio Suleiman send our deepest condolences to the family and friends of our beloved champion. Rest in Peace” , says the WBC statement.
Local media reports add that Mgaya took several heavy blows in the bout, biting his tongue and getting it stuck in his throat after the knockout.
Ngaya is the second Tanzanian fighter to die in recent months as Abassi Mselem died in November after being knocked out during a fight in Zanzibar.
