In the Italian region of Emilia Romagna, in the municipality of Valsamoggia, the opening ceremony of the “Victims of Genocide in Srebrenica” and “Alexander Langer” parks was held.
The event was attended by the mayor of Valsamoogie, Milena Zanna, Andrea Bertaccini, assistant for culture, Sabina Langer, niece of the late Alexander Langer, who stood for peace during the aggression in Bosnia and Herzegovina, and representatives of the “Nema problema” association.
Consul Arijana Džogović attended on behalf of the Consulate General of Bosnia and Herzegovina in Milan. On that occasion, the consul emphasized the importance of this event and emphasized the exceptional work, commitment and effort to spread the truth about the genocide in Srebrenica by the mayors of Valsamoggio, Milena Zanna and Andrea Bertaccini, which resulted in today’s naming of the park “Victims of Genocide in Srebrenica” and “Aleksander Langer”.
The park will be dedicated to the memory of the innocent victims of the genocide, a symbol of truth, justice and a warning to humanity. During her address, Consul Džogović thanked the audience on behalf of the state of Bosnia and Herzegovina for the opening of the park “Victims of the Srebrenica Genocide” and emphasized that the Republic of Italy was a sponsor of the Resolution on Srebrenica, for which the state of Bosnia and Herzegovina is extremely grateful. She also thanked the representatives of the association “Nema problema” who, as it was said, work for Bosnia and Herzegovina.
During her speech, Džogović said that the late Alexander Langer, who advocated for peace and coexistence in Bosnia and Herzegovina, played an exceptional role. For this exceptional effort, the cities of Sarajevo and Tuzla awarded him the title of honorary citizen. He was a builder of bridges of peace, a pro-European politician, an environmentalist, and a fighter for human rights. The book “The Art of Living Together” characterizes the life and thought of Alexander Langer.

Sabina Langer talked about the role of Alexander Langer in the fight to stop the war in Bosnia and Herzegovina, a prominent pacifist, journalist, politician, member of the European Parliament.
The mayor of Valsamoggio, an Italian municipality in the north of the Republic of Italy, pointed out that the park “Victims of Genocide in Srebrenica” is open especially for younger generations, so that they can remember and not forget the genocide in Srebrenica.
In the discussion, it was emphasized that we should remain committed to memorializing and spreading the lessons that everyone should learn from the genocide against Bosniaks in Srebrenica, and that it is of great importance to include learning about the genocide in education and that this is a key aspect that will make Srebrenica alive in people’s memories.
During the opening of the “Victims of Genocide in Srebrenica” and “Alexander Langer” parks, Bosnian director Ado Hasanović, whose film “My Father’s Diaries” was shown in the municipality of Valsamoggia, was also present.
The park “Victims of Genocide in Srebrenica” was opened by the mayor of Vasamoga, Milena Zanna, and the consul at the Consulate General of Bosnia and Herzegovina in Milan, Arijana Džogović.
