A 53-year-old woman from Beveren-Kruibeke-Zwijndrecht was killed last night by her partner Osman H. (46) in a hotel on De Keyserlei Street in Antwerp, Belgium. Osman H. is originally from Bosnia and Herzegovina. He informed the police himself and in the meantime he was brought before the investigating judge on suspicion of murder.
He reported the attack himself: “He did something to his partner”
Last night around 11:30 p.m., passers-by found the police, ambulances and doctors in front of the Leonardo Hotel, a four-star hotel. The spokesman for the public prosecutor’s office in Antwerp, Christof Aerts, confirmed that the man stopped passers-by on the street and asked them to call the police. “He did something to his partner,” Aerts said.
Agents found in the hotel room seriously injured woman (53). Despite the efforts of emergency services, the victim died on the spot.
The suspect is the victim’s husband: In custody on suspicion of murder
Forty-six-year-old Osman H. is the victim’s husband. The couple had been married for several years, but were said to have been having problems lately.
Osman H. was arrested and taken in for questioning. His lawyers confirmed that he is in a state of shock and is “very emotional”.
The investigation is ongoing, an autopsy is pending
The coroner ordered an autopsy, which will be performed over the weekend, to determine the exact cause of death. The Antwerp police are continuing their investigation.
Today, the suspect was brought before the investigating judge, who decided to release him detained in pre-trial detention on suspicion of murder. His further detention will be considered before a judicial panel next week.
