Thomas Waller, 18, used his position to gain the trust of two boys in his care before taking advantage of them, Guildford Crown Court was told.
The teenager, from Farnham, Surrey, worked at the nursery and his responsibilities included taking children to the toilet and helping with changing.
Sentencing him on Friday, Judge Claire Harden-Frost said it was “heartbreaking” to see the parents of the victims feeling responsible for what happened.
Waller was found guilty of rape, two counts of causing or inciting sexual activity and taking indecent photographs after a trial at Staines Youth Department earlier this year.
He was sentenced to 15 years in an institution for young offenders, of which he must serve 10 in custody and five on parole, writes Sky News.
In a victim impact statement, one parent said: “This was not an accident. It was not a bad decision made in the moment, it was premeditated and calculated. This man made no comments. This man chose to deny everything. He had every opportunity to plead guilty and express remorse, and he chose not to. He showed no responsibility for his actions.”
Another victim’s father said his son had “accumulated a collection of memories that I would never wish upon a human being”. He described Waller as “cold, sinister and calculating”. He added: “He must not be allowed to do this again.”
Meanwhile, another mother said in a statement to the court that Waller used his “skills” to “build trust with my son and then take advantage of him”. She added that the “beautiful, brave and smart son” questioned his own guilt as a result of testifying in court.
Speaking outside the court, Detective Superintendent Kate Hyde said a “dangerous man” had been put behind bars.
“This deeply disturbing case is every parent’s worst nightmare and I want to pay tribute to the victims and their families for their resilience throughout this process. Their support and strength allowed us to secure convictions and put a dangerous man behind bars. I hope that the fact that he has been brought to justice for the crimes he committed will help the families affected by his crimes to start moving forward with their lives,” she added.
