S & P 500 rose slightly on Thursday, led by Nvidia. But the winnings were limited, and investors were careful after a series of court events around the “reciprocal” tariffs of President Donald Trump.
The wide index increased by 0.3% after trading with an increase of as much as 0.9% on the highest levels during trading. Nasdaq Composite increased by 0.2%, which is also significantly below its highest daily gain of 1.5%. Dow Jones Industrial Average added 76 points, ie 0.3%, despite the fall of 3.5% in Salesforce after the publication of business results.
The US Court for International Trade ruled on Wednesday evening that Trump exceeded its powers when he imposed his “reciprocal” tariffs. The court ordered that the disputed tariff decisions have been undone.
However, the Trump Administration filed a complaint after the verdict, and the Appeals Court re-introduced tariffs on Thursday. The administration said that in Friday, he could ask the Supreme Court for the Supreme Court to temporarily suspend the original judgment of the Federal Court.
Trump’s occasional policy policy, as well as fears of inflation, encourage the terms of customs, stirred the markets last month. Some companies also pointed out customs when reducing their forecasts and noted uncertainty around trade policy and influence on consumers.
“In general, markets do not like uncertainty because it makes predictions difficult,” Larry Tentarella said, the founder of the Blue Chip Daily Trend Report. “We expect the cycle of news for customs to be extended the process, which can lead to greater short-term volatility.”
However, the shares of Nvidia provided an upward market momentum with a jump of almost 3%. The chips producer exceeded the expectations in terms of total revenue and net profit in the first quarter, as his business centers business recorded a year-on-year growth of 73%.
The strong report of Nvidi “can rejuvenate the optimism of investors in its entirety to focus on artificial intelligence, and less on the heads from Washington about the customs and taxes,” said James Demmert, Main Investment Director of Main Street Research.
Shares are recovering from poor growth on Wednesday, but the main American indices on their way are that a week – and month – end in the plus. S & P 500 and Dow, which includes 30 shares, increased by 1.7% and 1.2% this week, while technologically advanced Nasdaq has increased by more than 2%.
This month, S & P 500 got 6%. Dow added 3.5%, while Nasdaq jumped by almost 10%.
