On Monday, a dramatic armed attack on a cash vehicle took place on the expressway in Italy, which connects Lecce and Brindisi. The incident took place near the town of Tuturano, and according to initial information, there was also a shooting, writes Rai News.
With the quick action of the police from Lecce, two people suspected of being members of the gang were arrested. They were located in the area of northern Salento, where the forces of order immediately directed the search. The investigation is in full swing as they are looking for other members of the group.
According to the latest information, the attackers blew up as many as two, and not just one vehicle for transporting money, as was initially believed, reports Rai News. The attacked vehicle belongs to the company BTV Battistolli, and the robbers, in order to stop it, obstructed another vehicle on the road and set it on fire. Firefighters and police immediately arrived at the scene.
Following the attack, the Brindisi-Lecce state road was temporarily closed to all traffic in both directions. As announced by the Anas company, in charge of road maintenance, the interruption applies to the section from 8.3 to 12.8 kilometers, in the area of San Pietro Vernotica. Anas teams and the police are on the ground, regulating traffic and working to restore normalcy as soon as possible, reports Rai News.
