The Office for the Suppression of Corruption and Organized Crime (USKOK) issued a decision on the investigation of five defendants, three of whom have Croatian citizenship (1987, 1982, 1992), one dual citizenship of Croatia and Serbia (1988), and one citizenship of Bosnia and Herzegovina (2002), on the basis of a criminal complaint filed by the Zagreb Police Department, due to well-founded suspicion of committing crimes of theft and document forgery. criminal association.
It is suspected that the defendants in the period from December 2024 to December 16, 2025 in Zagreb and Imotski joined together in a joint action, setting as the goal of the action the acquisition and mutual sharing of considerable non-proprietary material benefits realized by alienating a large number of passenger cars of precisely specified models from various manufacturers, and then selling them to interested buyers, USKOK announced.
Implementation of the plan
Thus, as part of the implementation of the aforementioned plan, according to the stated needs for the purchase of vehicles that they had previously agreed with the end customers, they visited and monitored different locations in Zagreb where they found targeted vehicles suitable for alienation.
After that, they entered the vehicles using suitable tools and put them into operation.
In order to ensure further undisturbed transportation of those vehicles and to conceal the fact that they were stolen, they mounted on the vehicles previously acquired license plates that belonged to vehicles whose type and brand, color and other characteristics matched the stolen vehicles.
Then, knowing that those license plates did not belong to stolen vehicles, they took the stolen vehicles prepared in this way from Zagreb to Bosnia and Herzegovina or Serbia, that is, to other hidden locations in the area of Dalmatia, where the vehicles were picked up by persons unknown for now, and then transported across the border line to Bosnia and Herzegovina.
At the same time, using other vehicles as a precursor, they secured the defendant’s route during the transportation of stolen vehicles on the roads in Croatia.
At least 10 passenger cars were stolen
In the manner described, the defendants, for further resale to end customers, alienated at least ten passenger cars with a total value of at least 163,500.00 euros, for which amount they improperly benefited and at the same time damaged the owners of the alienated vehicles.
USKOK will propose to the County Court in Zagreb that all defendants be remanded in custody.
