During the past week, police officers of the Criminal Police Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Srpska arrested Mustafa Hrustanbegović from Janja on suspicion of having committed the criminal offense of Exploiting children for pornography.
Hrustanbegović was born in 1984 in Bijeljina, and currently lives in the settlement of Janja.
He was arrested this week in the “System” action, according to the police, by order of the competent court, and based on the request of the prosecution, which believes it has solid evidence against him that he committed a criminal offense.
The police searched the house where he lives, during which they temporarily confiscated computers, mobile phones, memory cards and other devices for storing digital data.
Hrustanbegović is suspected of having previously visited websites containing materials with photographs of child pornography, and of downloading photographs and videos via the Internet. It is also stated that he imported and distributed the mentioned content through social networks and communication applications. It is also suspected that he recruited children through social networks, leading them to create child pornography content.
The investigation in this case is ongoing, Hrustanbegović is undergoing criminal investigation, after which further prosecutorial decisions will be made on whether he should be detained or if prohibition measures are sufficient.
Who is the arrested Hrustanbegović
After his arrest, the media from RS announced that he was a master of pedagogy, a religious teacher in several schools in Janja and Bijeljina, and the president of the congregational board of the Atik mosque in Janja, which further shocked the public.
Now it is also known that Hrustanbegović also tried his hand at politics, considering that he was a candidate of People and Justice for councilor in the Assembly of the City of Bijeljina in the 2020 local elections. As a member of NiP, he was on the joint list “SDA-NiP”, which was formed that year in Bijeljina.
The local portal Events in Bijeljina also states that Hrustanbegović was active in the non-governmental sector through the organization LAG, participating in seminars and trainings in the field of project writing according to European Union standards.
“Together with the Majlis of the Islamic Community of Janja, he participated in the preparation of the report and the opening of the children’s playground “Vildan”, where he was the first manager. During that period, he was studying for a master’s degree in the field of religious education, married and the father of two children,” writes Dešanje in Bijeljina.
