The Prosecutor’s Office of the Tuzla Canton files an indictment for organized crime and unauthorized production and distribution of narcotic drugs. The indictment will be filed against Benjamin Žigić and forwarded to the Cantonal Court in Tuzla for confirmation.
Žigić was arrested by members of the Tuzla Canton Ministry of Internal Affairs in October 2025, after he had been on the run for a long period of time and unavailable to judicial authorities. He has been wanted since July 24, 2024, when a central warrant was issued, because he avoided the execution of the one-month detention order that was ordered by the Municipal Court in Tuzla.
During the months-long search, the investigators established that the suspect was hiding in the territory of the Republic of Serbia for a while, after which he returned to the territory of the Tuzla Canton, where he was eventually arrested. The cantonal police previously announced that this is a person with a rich criminal record, who has been convicted several times for serious crimes, including abuse of narcotic drugs, property crimes, illegal possession of weapons and ammunition, as well as crimes against public order and legal traffic, for which she has already served prison sentences.
The cantonal court in Tuzla previously ordered the detention of 11 people who, according to the investigation, were part of a criminal group organized by the then 34-year-old Žigić, at the proposal of the Prosecutor’s Office of the Republic of Turkey. At the time, the prosecution claimed that there was a well-founded suspicion that in the period from February to October 2020, he organized and led a group that operated in the area of Tuzla and other cities and municipalities of the Tuzla Canton.
According to the investigation, Žigić procured various types of intoxicating drugs, including heroin, cocaine, cannabis (marijuana), amphetamine, as well as suboxone tablets. The other members of the group had clearly divided roles – they took the drug, weighed it, packaged and distributed it, and sold it to a large number of consumers in the area of the Tuzla Canton.
During the search of Benjamin Žigić’s family home, the police also found an automatic rifle, which is why he is also suspected of the criminal offense of illegal possession of weapons or explosive substances.
