Last week, uncertainty ruled on the world stock exchanges after US President Donald Trump announced new customs duties from 1. Augusta, which further intensified the trade war with key partners.
The indices on the Wall Street are fired – Dow Jones by 1%, S & P 500 by 0.3%, and NASDAQ by 0.1%. Trump first announced customs in imports from 14 countries, including South Korea and Japan, and then on another seven countries and 50% customs duties. In response, Brazilian President Lula da Silva announced return measures.
At the end of the week, Trump also introduced a duty of 35% on Canadian products, and 50% on copper imports. Although markets no longer respond violently on these announcements, uncertainty still exists.
Despite this, in the middle of the week S & P 500 and Nasdaq have reached records thanks to the growth of stock prices of technology giants such as Nvidi, whose market value exceeded $ 4,000 billion.
In Europe, the exchanges recorded growth – FTSE increased by 1.3%, Dax 2%, and CAC 1.7% – mostly due to positive signals on trade negotiations between the United States and the EU. However, Trump further threatened by introducing 30% of customs to most goods from the EU.
The President of the European Commission Ursula Von Der Leyen said that he would be working on arrangement, but also preparing countermeasures if necessary. The reactions of European investors remain to be seen on Monday.
