The Prosecutor’s Office of Sarajevo Canton continues to work on the case of the tram accident in which a young man, Erdoan Morankic (23), lost his life on February 12, 17-year-old Ella Jovanović was seriously injured, and three people were slightly injured.
A team of prosecutors has been formed to work on the case, said Azra Bavčić, spokeswoman for the KS Prosecutor’s Office.
– From the initial stage of the investigation, the Prosecutor’s Office of KS has been undertaking investigations in order to establish all the circumstances of the tram accident – said Bavčić and added that they are currently interviewing witnesses.
– As well as other persons who might have relevant information. At the same time, video surveillance footage from the scene of the accident, as well as from the surrounding buildings and roads, is excluded – she stated.
During the investigation, Bavčić said, material and technical documentation was identified, which will be subject to seizure and further investigation.
– The responsibility of everyone in the chain will be determined. A team of prosecutors will work on this case in the focus of priority procedures – she said.
On Sunday, the Cantonal Court in Sarajevo rejected the request of the KS Prosecutor’s Office to order a one-month detention for Adnan Kasapović, the GRAS driver who operated the tram.
According to the Court’s assessment, the legal qualification of the Prosecutor’s Office about the willful behavior of the driver, along with the claim that the sole cause of the accident was the human factor, was declared wrong and unsustainable.
It was concluded that in that, the initial phase of the investigation, there are no sufficient grounds for suspecting that Kasapović committed a criminal offense against the safety of public traffic, for which a prison sentence of one to eight years is normally provided.
