The Federal Reserve has cut interest rates to the lowest level in three years

The US Federal Reserve cut the benchmark interest rate by an additional 0.25 percentage points to a range of 3.75% to 4% – the lowest level in the past three years.

However, the decision was not without divisions, and for the first time since 2019, we are seeing a “duel” of disagreements within the Fed itself.

Fed Governor Stephen Miran voted for a more aggressive cut of 0.50 pp, while Kansas City Regional President Jeffrey Schmid wanted to keep rates unchanged. The conflicting opinions reveal a deep debate within the institution about how President Donald Trump’s broad economic measures — from trade and immigration to fiscal spending — are affecting the state of the U.S. economy.

The situation is further complicated by the fact that this is the first time in the modern era that the Fed makes a decision on monetary policy without full insight into the latest key employment data, as an entire month of reports is missing due to technical glitches in government statistics, reports Investor me.

However, most members believe that easier borrowing conditions are needed to support economic growth and ease tensions in the labor market, while some of the leadership warns that easing too quickly could fuel inflationary expectations.
