The Bank of Slovenia lowered its forecast of this year’s growth of the Slovenian economy from 2.2 to 1.3 percent. Its forecast is the worst among domestic and international institutions.
Growth is expected to reach 2.4 percent in the next two years. The annual inflation this year should reach 2.5 percent, which is 0.3 percentage points more than an estimate from December.
Other leading domestic and international institutions dealing with the forecasts of macroeconomic trends predict growth for Slovenia between 1.6 and 2.1 percent for this year.
According to the Banks of Slovenia, at a significantly lower the forecast of this year’s GDP growth significantly affected the economic activity in the first quarter, which decreased by 0.8 percent compared to the previous year, and mainly caused by significantly increased uncertainty in global trade.
However, institutions are quite unanimous when it comes to forecasts for the next year. All of them expect to accelerate growth to about 2.4 percent or slightly less, seeing SEEbiz.
Meanwhile, the annual inflation this year is expected to be slightly higher than estimated in December last year. Instead of 2.2 percent, it is expected to reach 2.5 percent. An increase is expected to be only temporary, as the Bank of Slovenia is expecting a slowdown at 2.2 and 1.9 percent in the next two years.
