The world of professional boxing has been rocked by the news of a serious car accident in Nigeria involving former two-time world heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua. In the accident, which happened on Monday morning, two people died, while the famous boxer escaped with minor injuries.
The accident happened at around 11am on the busy Lagos-Ibadan expressway in Ogun State. According to the first available information, the Lexus SUV, in which Joshua was, hit a truck that was stopped on the road. At the time of the collision, the boxer was sitting in the back seat of the vehicle, which was part of a two-car convoy.
One of the eyewitnesses described the dramatic moments after the collision, stating that there were four people in the Lexus – the driver, the passenger and two people in the back seat, including Joshua. Citizens who happened to be nearby immediately tried to help the injured before the arrival of emergency services.
Members of the Federal Road Safety Authority of Nigeria soon arrived at the scene of the accident, secured the location and began an investigation. Despite the force of the impact and the completely destroyed vehicle, it has been confirmed that Anthony Joshua’s life is not in danger.
Photos from the scene of the accident soon appeared on social networks, and they show a visibly shaken boxer sitting in a crushed car, surrounded by members of the emergency services.
Joshua was in Nigeria privately, vacationing in his parents’ home country, just weeks after his December 19 knockout victory over Jake Paul in Miami.
