Governor of the Central Bank of Bosnia and Herzegovina (CBBH), Jasmina Selimović, in her capacity as Governor of Bosnia and Herzegovina at the International Monetary Fund (IMF), attended the Plenary Session of the Annual Assembly of the Board of Governors of the IMF and the World Bank Group, held in Washington.

The Assembly brings together finance ministers and central bank governors of member countries, with the aim of considering the key challenges of the global economy, preserving financial stability, supporting sustainable development and helping developing countries.

During the session, it was pointed out that global economic growth remains relatively stable. IMF Director General Kristalina Georgieva announced a slight slowdown in growth – from 3.3 percent in the previous year to 3.2 percent in 2025 and 3.1 percent in 2026. Within the Global PoliticsCzech agenda, the implementation of ambitious domestic reforms, preservation of fiscal stability, maintenance of open trade, preservation of financial stability and reduction of global imbalances are listed as key priorities – the Central Bank of Bosnia and Herzegovina announced.

The President of the World Bank, Ajay Banga, emphasized that job creation must be at the center of global economic policies, whereby the private sector should receive the support of governments through the improvement of the regulatory and investment environment.

It was concluded that, in the conditions of global uncertainty, fragmentation of trade and structural changes, policy makers must focus on measures that strengthen the resilience of economies and accelerate sustainable economic growth.

Governor Selimović participated in a meeting organized by the IMF Department for Europe, intended exclusively for governors and ministers of finance. The focus of the meeting was on economic prospects and challenges of economic policies in Central, Eastern and Southeastern Europe.

During the meeting, the latest projections of global and European economic growth were presented. According to these estimates, the countries of Central, Eastern and Southeastern Europe, including the Western Balkans, expect moderate growth in the medium term, with a gradual decrease in inflation. However, it warned of the present risks, among which global trade tensions and geopolitical uncertainty stand out.

During her stay in Washington, Governor Selimović also participated in the Women Leaders Breakfast Discussion event, dedicated to strengthening the economic inclusion of women and supporting female entrepreneurship.

The host of this special meeting was Antonella Bassani, Vice President of the World Bank for Europe and Central Asia, and it brought together leaders of central banks, ministers of finance and representatives of international financial institutions. The discussion focused on the importance of the role of women in shaping economic policies, improving financial inclusion and building more resilient economies through the equal participation of women in decision-making processes.

Governor Selimović pointed out that the economic inclusion of women is not only a question of equality, but also a key development priority.

– Women’s economic inclusion creates more resilient communities, diversified economies and a fairer society. Through programs like the We-Fi initiative, we are building a bridge between equal opportunities and sustainable development – she said.

She emphasized that the CBBH will continue to promote gender inclusion through financial education and inclusion programs, and through active participation in international networks such as We-Fi and OECD/INFE.

The Women Leaders Breakfast Discussion was held as part of the official program of the Annual Meetings of the IMF and the World Bank, and represents an important platform for networking women leaders from all over the world and working together to improve gender equality in the financial and economic sectors – the press release states.
