The acting prosecutor of the Cantonal Prosecutor’s Office of the Tuzla Canton submitted to the judge for the preliminary proceedings of the Tuzla Cantonal Court a proposal for the determination of a one-month detention measure for Amel Šehić (39), living in the area of Živinice, due to the existence of reasonable suspicion that he committed the criminal offense of serious criminal offenses against the safety of public traffic in connection with the criminal offense of endangering public traffic due to intoxication.
Šehić is suspected of having previously driven himself into a state of intoxication with a blood alcohol concentration of 1.65 per thousand on the M-17.1 highway in the town of Dubrave Gornje near Živinica, knowing that he was incapable of safe driving, driving the vehicle at an inappropriate speed on wet pavement, lost control, ran off the road into the yard of a family home and hit a concrete lamp post. On that occasion, a fellow passenger in the vehicle, Alen Majdančić (37) from Kalesija, died due to head and chest injuries, two people who were in the vehicle were seriously injured and one with minor injuries.
Police officers from the OKP PU Kalesija and the on-duty prosecutor conducted an investigation at the scene, witness statements were taken and it was established that at the time of the traffic accident, Šehić’s driver’s license was revoked due to previous traffic violations.
The police officers of the Živinica Police Department deprived the suspect of his liberty, the criminal investigation was carried out and he was handed over to the Prosecutor’s Office with a report on the crime committed.
The acting prosecutor issued an order to conduct an investigation and questioned the suspect.
Investigations are ongoing.
