In the premises of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Sarajevo Canton (MUP KS) on Friday, official data was published about the terrible traffic accident that happened on February 12, when a tram derailed in the center of Sarajevo, killing one person and injuring four.
The spokeswoman of the KS MUP, Mersiha Novalić, explained that the accident happened at 12:02 at the intersection of Prva transverzala and Ulica Zmaja od Bosna. As stated, the tram derailed when turning left from the direction of the Railway Station. “There was an impact of the tram into a passenger motor vehicle, then into a metal pole, then into a protective fence at the tram station, after which the tram stopped on the roadway of Ulica Zmaja od Bosna,” Novalić said.
In this accident, a 23-year-old young man from Brčko, who was at the tram station at the time of the accident, lost his life. Death was declared by a doctor on the spot.
Novalić added that the minor high school student suffered serious, life-threatening injuries. She was transported to the “Abdullah Nakaš” General Hospital, where doctors monitored her health status, and the latest information on her condition is expected during the day.
The KS MUP also announced data on the remaining injured persons. It is about a 24-year-old female pedestrian from Sarajevo who suffered minor injuries and after receiving medical help at the Clinical Center, she was discharged for home treatment. Then, to a 60-year-old passenger in the tram, originally from Konjic, who also suffered minor injuries and was discharged home. The tram driver, a 48-year-old man, also suffered minor injuries.
Novalić emphasized that the police continue to work to determine all the circumstances of the accident, and that the investigation will provide final answers about the causes of this tragic event.
