This was the eighth sold-out performance of the opera “Tvrtko, kralj bosanski”, including its premiere.
The opera “Tvrtko, King of Bosnia” is based on the novel “Chronicle of King Tvrtko” by Jasmin Imamović, for which the libretto is written by Muamer Kodrić.
The soloists and choir of the Sarajevo National Theater Opera, the Sarajevo National Theater Ballet and the Sarajevo Philharmonic take part in the performance.
“The opera Tvrtko, King of Bosnia was created at the border and within the framework of different extremes – as an effort for our musical artistic practice to finally achieve what was achieved long ago in other environments, but at the same time not to be essentially late and anachronistic. In terms of composition, I as the author faced a large number of challenges – a very large number of main and episodic roles that correspond to each other, almost throughout the duration of the work; a musical “painting” of the Middle Ages where it often had to be the present absence of the classic major-minor tonality relationship, the frequent use of modes and extended tonality with frequent changes of the tonal center as the basis of thematic expression, along with the multitude of uses of distant harmonies as an element that enhances and “colors” the dramatic action on stage.” – said composer Ammar Jažić.
The title role of Tvrtko was performed by the soloist of the NPS Opera Ivan Šarić; Grubača, Tvrtko’s unmarried wife, was played by Amila Ravkić; in the role of Princess Jelena, Tvrtko’s mother, we listened to Katarina Kikić Marić; while Dorothea, Queen of Bosnia was embodied by Hana Salihović. Amir Saračević played the role of Vuk Tvrtko’s brother; Ileš Bečei, the character of Vuk Dabišić, a nobleman, conspirator against Tvrtko. Opera soloist Erol Ramadanović portrayed the character of Hotjan, Tvrtko’s advisor. Did Bosnian, the head of the Bosnian Church is Leonardo Šarić; Vlatko Hranić, Bosnian knight and great Denis Isaković.
Jasmin Bašić presented the character of Brave, the bailiff; Elizabeth, Queen of Hungary, Diana Šegvić; and the Venetian envoy Josip Katavić. The Dalmatian envoy is Siniša Markanović; Nicolo, Ermin Asceric; Abdulaziz, Nedim Bašić. Lazar’s messenger was played by Edin Daši, the Hungarian messenger by Dejan Kajević, and Vladislav Dabišić, the brother of Vuk Dabišić, by Haris Bidžan.
The choreographer is Mojca Majcen, set designer Slaven Raos, costume designer Mladen Radovniković. Lighting design is by Moamer Šaković, and video design is by Dino Hujić. The head of the Opera choir is Danijel Zontar.
The play was co-produced with the Bosniak Community of Culture.
The patron of the first Bosnian-Herzegovinian royal grand opera “Tvrtko, kralj bosanski” is the Government of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
The opera was realized under the high patronage of the member of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina dr. Denis Bećirović and the Prime Minister of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina Nermin Nikšić, and under the general patronage of the Ministry of Culture and Sports of Sarajevo Canton and Minister Kenan Magoda
