HSBC: Sale of dollars becomes a balloon that could burst

The HSBC Bank Strategists warn that a sudden decline in the US dollar looks more and more like “anti-balloon” – an investment euphoria, which, as well as everyone else, dispecked at some point. Although the weakening of the dollar continues, the signs of the reversal are all more pronounced.

The continuous sale of the dollar is increasingly reminiscent of the balloon as well as all balloons, and this will eventually burst, the HSBC Holdings PLC Holdings Strate.

The merchants seem to be obsessed with a sudden drop in dollar values this year, and they tend to project that trend in the future, the notes signed by analysts led by Paul Mackel. This, warn, shows the behavior forms similar to those at the time of market balloons.

“It wasn’t much of the moment when there was an obvious bonon of a strong dollar, but now we are witnessing the opposite – a kind of ‘anti-balloon’,” the analysis is stated. “There are characteristics of balloons, which is warning the sign that the bottom of the dollar value may not be far away.”

Bloomberg’s dollar value index (Bloomberg Dollar Spot index) has fallen out of 8% since the beginning of the year, after aggressive American customs and the chaotic policy implementation questioned the world’s spare currency stability. The HSBC expects the dollar to remain weak for a while, but warns that arguments for a further drop becomes too unilateral.

Although uncertainty around American economic policy undermined the status of a dollar as a safe haven and further encourage the global “de-dollarization”, the analysts believe that the reasons for further sale are not as strong as the President Donald Tramp announced a broad set of customs.

Return to a more traditional framework in which the dollar is aligned with the yields on American bonds could signal the end of its decline, they are allegations from HSBC. A similar pattern is now begun to be observed between American shares and yields, which could also announce the reversal, investor me.

On the other hand, the fall of the dollar could be re-accelerated if the political uncertainty in the USA or the global economy is increased in the phase of accelerated growth. Although neither of them is no basic HSBC scenario, “Risks are real”, warn. Potential triggers could be a replacement of the President of the Federal Reserves of Jerome Powell or the continuation of the external euro.

“As we consider possible negative scenarios for the dollar, we must keep in mind and factors that could mark the end of its weakening,” it concludes the method led by Mackel. “In our view, an ‘anti-dollar balloon’ forms. Although he is not yet ready to burst – balloons always crack.”
